How to make a movie poster with the movie poster generator

Three steps and about half a minute from a film idea to a finished one sheet with the movie poster maker.

  1. 1

Describe the scene and quote the words

Write what the key art shows: the hero, the place, the light. Then the text in quotes, in reading order: the title, a tagline, a release line and, if you like, a short credits line such as "STARRING MAYA ROSS".

  2. 2

Pick a genre and a size

Choose Action, Sci-fi, Horror, Romance, Animation, Film noir or another genre, or keep Any genre and let your description set the look. Posters start at 2:3, the shape of a theatrical one sheet.

  3. 3

    Generate, check, download

The poster appears in your history. Check the words, download the full image, or send it on to upscale it for print, change one line, or turn it into a short teaser clip.

What the movie poster generator does well, and what is still hard

Lettering in AI images has come a long way, but small print is still the hard part of any poster.

Works well

  • Titles, taglines and release lines of a few words each
  • A short credits line: two or three names with STARRING or DIRECTED BY
  • Genre key art: space, horror, romance, animation, noir, westerns
  • Your own photo as the lead, added as a reference picture

Still hard

  • A full billing block of twenty names in tiny condensed type
  • An exact studio font: you get a close match, not the font itself
  • Wall prints straight from the model: about 1 MP, so upscale first
  • Real actors, studio logos or posters you have no rights to

If one line comes out wrong, fix just that line in Edit text in image instead of making the whole poster again.

Why use this movie poster generator

Made for one sheets people print, post and frame, not only pretty pictures.

01

Title, tagline and credits spelled as written

Quoted text goes to the model word for word with an instruction to add nothing else, and the default model, GPT Image 2.5, is one of the most accurate at lettering. Every example on this page was read back and matched its quotes.

02

11 genres that set the look

Each genre adds its own art direction: heavy titles and fire for action, cyan light for sci-fi, deep shadow for horror, warm gold for romance, sepia dust for a western.

03

The one sheet shape from the start

Posters start upright at 2:3, within about 1% of the 27 × 40 inch theatrical one sheet and the same shape as 24 × 36 prints, with 3:4, 4:5 and 9:16 for frames and phone stories.

04

Pick the model for each poster

GPT Image 2.5 is the default; switch to Ideogram 3, Nano Banana Pro or any of the 14 image models for another look. The price shows on the button first.

05

Star in your own movie poster

Add a photo of yourself, a friend who agreed, or a pet as a reference picture and the movie poster maker builds the key art around it.

06

From poster to print or teaser

Send a result to the image upscaler for a bigger print, to Edit text in image to change a name, or to image to video for a few seconds of moving key art.

Guide: great results from a movie poster generator

Five short notes on prompts, credits, genres, sizes and rights.

Write the prompt like a one sheet brief

First the key art: who or what is the hero, where, and in what light, such as "a lone rider on a mesa at sunset". Then the words, each in its own quotes, in the order they should be read: title, tagline, release line. The movie poster generator treats quoted text as the poster's copy and everything else as art direction.

Credits: keep the block short

A real billing block packs twenty names into a strip of tall, narrow capitals, and that size is still hard for every image model. Two or three names come out right: write "STARRING JONAH PIKE AND MAYA ROSS" and "DIRECTED BY ELENA VOSS" as separate quotes. By convention the director comes last.

Let the genre do the lighting

The genre pill adds one line of art direction, so your prompt can stay about the story. Pick Any genre when you want full control, then describe the colours and the title lettering yourself, such as "red brush script title on black".

Printing: upscale first

A poster from the model is about 1 megapixel, around 830 × 1250 pixels at 2:3: sharp on screens and fine up to about 4 × 6 inches on paper. Run it through the image upscaler: 4× gives about 3300 × 5000 pixels, enough for 11 × 17 inches at 300 DPI or a 27 × 40 inch one sheet at about 125 DPI, which looks fine from a few steps away.

Make it your film, not someone else's

Invent the title and the names, or use your own. Real actors' names and faces, studio logos, rating boxes and existing posters belong to others. Fan art of a film you love is better described by its mood and setting than by its stars.

Who uses the movie poster generator

Anyone who needs a poster for a film today rather than after a week in a design tool.

  • Fan art and fake movie posters

A poster for the film you wish existed, a sequel, or a fake movie poster starring your friends.

  • Student and indie films

Key art for a short film, a festival entry or a crowdfunding page before the shoot is done.

  • Film nights and clubs

Screening nights, cinema clubs and themed parties with a poster in the style of the night.

  • Gifts and celebrations

Birthdays, anniversaries and farewells: put someone in the starring role of their own movie poster.
