How to Open a PSD File in Your Browser

No Photoshop, no account.

  1. 1

    Open your file

Drop a PSD or PSB onto the PSD viewer, or choose a file or a sample.

  2. 2

    Explore the layers

Zoom up to 1600%, drag to pan, and click an eye to hide a layer.

  3. 3

    Save what you need

Save the view as PNG or JPG, one layer as PNG, or all layers as a ZIP.

What the PSD Viewer Can and Cannot Show

If Photoshop saved a finished picture in the file, you see exactly that picture.

Shows reliably

  • Files saved with Maximize Compatibility: the picture Photoshop stored, unchanged.
  • RGB, grayscale, indexed and bitmap at 8, 16 or 32 bits, PSD or PSB.
  • Rebuilt pictures: layer order, opacity, masks, clipping, groups and all 27 blend modes (Dissolve's speckle aside).
  • Type layers: read and copy the text, and see the fonts used.

Limits

  • Without a saved picture, layer styles, adjustment layers, smart filters and feathered masks may differ.
  • CMYK colors are approximate, converted by formula. Not for print proofing.
  • Lab, Duotone and Multichannel files do not open yet; convert to RGB first.
  • No editing: text cannot be changed, and nothing saves back to PSD.

Tip: a PSD that looks blank in other apps can open here, rebuilt from its layers.

Why Use This Free PSD Viewer

A PSD file viewer that keeps files private. Free, no sign-up, no watermark, no limit.

01

Never uploaded

The PSD viewer reads your file on your device, with no upload wait. Most files open in a few seconds.

02

Layers like in Photoshop

Top to bottom, with thumbnails, folding groups and marks for type, smart objects, styles, masks and clipping.

03

Hide a layer, see the change

Click an eye and the picture is rebuilt from the visible layers at once.

04

Opens files that look blank elsewhere

A PSD saved without Maximize Compatibility holds no finished picture. We rebuild it from the layers, checked against Photoshop's own pictures in nearly 200 test files.

05

File and layer details

Size, DPI, color mode, bit depth and fonts; per layer, blend mode, opacity, fill, position and size.

06

PNG, JPG or a layer ZIP

Save a transparent PNG or a JPG on white, one layer as a trimmed PNG, or every layer in a ZIP.

PSD Viewer Guide: Open, Check and Export

Five tips to open PSD files without Photoshop.

Open a PSD file without Photoshop

Windows has no built-in PSD support, and Preview on a Mac shows only the flattened picture, without layers. A browser works on any system: open this PSD viewer on Windows, Mac, a Chromebook or a phone and drop the file in. Nothing to install, no account, and the file never leaves your device. Other apps and phones are covered in our guide on how to open a PSD file.

Why a PSD can look blank

Photoshop saves a finished picture in a PSD only with Maximize Compatibility on. Without it, previews and many converters show a blank image, while this PSD viewer rebuilds the picture from the layers. To fix the file, set Preferences > File Handling > Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility to Always and save again.

Check text, fonts and layer settings

A PSD does not embed its fonts, so other apps may swap them. This PSD viewer shows the text pixels rendered in the file, so the type looks as designed. Open Info to list the fonts, copy the text of a type layer, and check each layer's blend mode, opacity and position.

Export PNG, JPG or every layer

PNG keeps transparency; JPG has none, so the background is filled with white. Both keep the file's DPI. The layer ZIP holds one canvas-sized PNG per layer, so the layers line up again when stacked, sorted into folders by group. Hidden layers are left out. For many files at once, use PSD to PNG.

Large files, PSB and phones

PSB is Photoshop's Large Document Format, made for files past the 2 GB limit of PSD. This PSD viewer opens PSD and PSB files up to 500 MB, and on a phone it warns you first when a file is over 100 MB. On a touch screen, pinch to zoom and drag to pan.
